What can you do to help someone in crisis?

You might feel worried or nervous about helping someone in crisis, particularly if this is your first time, but you can help until a medical professional arrives. Here are some first-aid actions to take when someone is in crisis:

1. Get Their Attention. Tap them, call out loudly, and shake their shoulders; if they remain unresponsive, rub your knuckles on their breastbone.

2. Check for Breathing. Look for chest movement. Listen and feel for breath near their mouth or nose.

3. Provide Rescue Breathing. If breathing is slow, strained, or stopped, perform rescue breathing. Ask if anyone nearby knows CPR.

4. Check for Naloxone. Look for naloxone on them or nearby. If available and trained, administer it and monitor their response.

5. Call Emergency Services. Provide details about their symptoms and exact location. Avoid mentioning drug use; instead, focus on their condition.
